About this itemFrom Paris a rare original WW1 FRENCH SOLDIER GALLANTRY GROUP WITH PORTRAIT IN GLASS WOOD FRAME. Nice group of a French soldier of the 925 Infantry Regiment who was decorated twice for Bravery fighting the Germans, in the Portrait he is wearing the exact same two medals. The Frame measures a large 27cm x 13.5cm.
THE MILITARY MEDAL is issued to any non-commissioned officer or enlisted personnel who distinguishes himself by acts of bravery in action against an enemy force. Commissioned officers are not eligible. An interesting feature of the médaille is that it's also the supreme award for leadership, being awarded to Generals and Admirals who had been commanders-in-chief.
THE CROIX DE GUERRE may either be awarded as an individual or unit award to those soldiers who distinguish themselves by acts of heroism involving combat with the enemy. The medal is awarded to those who have been "mentioned in dispatches", meaning a heroic deed or deeds were performed meriting a citation from an individual's headquarters unit. The unit award of the Croix de guerre with palm was issued to military units whose members performed heroic deeds in combat and were subsequently recognized by headquarters.
