ORIGINAL U.S. DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS CASED SET 3rd HIGHEST BRAVERY MEDAL IN THE AIRAmerica's 3rd highest military decoration as awarded to U.S. Pilots and Enlisted Personel in any branch of the four services, awarded for EXTRAORDINARY HEROISM AGAINST AN ARMED ENEMY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Instituted: 1926 (Retroactive to 6 April 1917) Award Criteria: May be awarded to all Pilots in the U.S. Military - U.S Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army for Heroism (Gallantry) while participating in aerial flight. Description: The U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross was designed by Elizabeth Will and Arthur E. DuBois. It is a bronze cross, with rays between the arms of the cross. On the observe is a propeller of four blades, with one blade in each arm of the cross and in the re-entrant angles of the cross are rays which form a square. The cross is suspended by a rectangular-shaped bar and centered on this is a plain shield. The reverse is blank and suitable for engraving the recipients name and rank. This original set comes complete with United States Presentation Case, Ribbon Bar, Lapel Pin, U.S. Regulation Medal, Case Band, Protective Outer Carton as awarded. This is a genuine medal of the very highest USA made quality, in a mint, un-awarded condition, U.S. Government approved and of current regulation manufacture ready for service or veteran's wear - hallmarked by a US Government authorized manufacturer behind the pin as per U.S. federal regulation G27. Department of Defense medals are governed by the Institute of Heraldry, Graco has been authorized by IOH to manufacture DOD medals under an assigned Hallmark .
