About this itemGENUINE U.S. PARATROOPER AIRBORNE WINGS FIVE COMBAT JUMP GOLD STAR ATTACHED
Rare genuine United States Army Parachute (Airborne) Wings, scarce 5 Combat Jumps Gold Star attached, awarded for five seperate combat jumps into enemy territory.
These are 100% genuine post WW2 made paratrooper wings, hallmarked (makers marked) by an authorized US Government manufacturer V-21 on the reverse, the maker is Vanguard USA.
We have a few similar type wings with different bronze star attachments in stock, the badge pictured may vary slightly in looks as we are using file picture.
An oxidized silver badge 1 13/64 inches in height and 1 1/2 inches in width, consisting of an open parachute on and over a pair of stylized wings displayed and curving inward. A star and wreath are added above the parachute canopy to indicate the degree of qualification. A star above the canopy indicates a Senior Parachutist; the star surrounded by a laurel wreath indicates a Master Parachutist.
The wings suggest flight and, together with the open parachute, symbolize individual proficiency and parachute qualifications.
History: The original Army Parachutist Badge was designed in 1941 by Lieutenant General William P. Yarborough and approved by the Department of the Army in March of that year. The Parachutist Badge replaced the Parachutist Patch which had previously worn as a large patch on the right side of a Paratrooper's garrison cap. The Army Parachutist Badge is issued in three degrees, being that of Basic, Senior, and Master Parachutist. The various degrees are signified by a star and wreath above the decoration.
