About this itemThe Military Merit Medal (German: Verdienstmedaille) was a decoration of the Empire of Austria-Hungary. It was founded by Emperor Franz Joseph on March 12, 1890. The Merit Medal is often referred to as the "Signum Laudis" (Latin for "sign of praise") after the inscription on the reverse of the medal.
Austria; Silver gilt, unmarked, 31 mm x 51.8 mm, on an original triangular ribbon with hook and eye, near extremely fine. In its hard-shelled case of issue, coat-of-arms on the lid.
